Professor of College of Chemistry and Molecular Sciences, Wuhan University
Dr. Jun Zhang received her B.S. degree from Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics and completed the master and Ph.D. degree in Department of Chemistry from Tohoku University under the supervisor of Professor Hitoshi Miyasaka. After obtaining her Ph.D. in 2019, she continued her research in the same group as a postdoctoral fellow. By 2021, Dr. Zhang held the position as an Assistant Professor (Principal Investigator) at the Frontier Research Institute for Interdisciplinary Sciences (FRIS), Tohoku University. In 2023, she was appointed as a full professor at Wuhan University in College of Chemistry and Molecular Sciences.
Dr. Zhang's doctoral thesis, titled "Development of Porous Layered Magnets toward the Control of Their Magnetic Functionality with Chemical Stimuli", specializes in the design and synthesis of redox-active porous magnets, focusing on the manipulation of spin and charge in response to guest molecules, such as solvents and gases. Her work has led to the discovery of innovative strategies for controlling electron/spin states and spin arrangement within porous magnets, that is host-guest electron transfer, host-guest spin-coupling and on-host electron transfer. These strategies have achieved significant shifts in magnetic ordering temperatures and enabled the transition between bistable magnetic phases, including paramagnetic, ferrimagnetic, and antiferromagnetic states, through the introduction of guest molecules.
Dr. Zhang's current research centered around spin chemistry, focusing on the control of magnetic and electrical properties of porous magnets and the spin-mediated growth of chiral molecular frameworks as well as the development of spin-based catalysis. The Spin Chem Laboratory seeks to advance the fundamental understanding of electron spin of molecular frameworks for tailored functional properties.
